MU's plan on the January Exchange: Buy One Player, or Not at All
The winter transfer market will open in a month. Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said his club might not be shopping.
In the first half of this season, MU slumped. The Red Devils were thrown in the middle of the table with a seventh-place after just 21 points, 14 points behind defending champions Manchester City in the top position and seven points ahead of Chelsea, who are in the Champions League zone.
Defense is one of the bleak problems of MU's appearance. In 13 matches, MU have conceded 21 goals, more than the number of goals that go into the opponent's cage (20) so that the goal difference is -1.
MU is ranked seventh in conceding the most goals in the Premier League. The Red Devils are only better than West Ham and Huddersfield (22), Cardiff (27), and three teams in the relegation zone namely Burnley (27), Southampton (24), and Fulham (33).
According to speculation that blew, Mourinho targeted Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar and AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli. The first-mentioned player instead is talking about a new contract with his club.
In addition, Manchester United are also rumored to be still chasing Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld, whose contract runs out in the summer of 2019. However, Mourinho thinks it will be difficult for his team to shop.
"To be honest, I don't feel we will recruit players," Mourinho told the Telegraph.
"Even if I spend, I will say just one player. I don't think we will spend more than that."
